What Is a Triple-Double In Basketball?

A triple-double is a rare basketball feat where a player has recorded at least 10 in three different stat categories. 

For example, Caitlin Clark played a game in July 2024 where she recorded 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists. It was the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA history.

There are other kinds of triple-doubles. For example, Victor Wembanyama played a game in February 2024 where he recorded 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks. 

Triple-doubles with blocks or steals are very rare. There are patches of basketball history where no one earns one for years. 

What Is a Double-Double In Basketball?

Double-doubles are much more common than triple-doubles, but they’re still difficult to achieve. A player earns a double-double when he has at least 10 in two different stat categories. 

Forwards and centers most commonly earn double-doubles by scoring 10 points and collecting 10 rebounds; point guards often earn double-doubles by dishing 10 assists on top of their 10 points.
