Southampton vs Man City Prediction & Odds

  • Southampton is predicted to be a +1.5-goal home underdog against Man City.
  • Manchester City has won each of its last 13 EPL matches against promoted teams.
  • My Southampton vs. Man City prediction is Man City inside 30 minutes.

The biggest spread of the week occurs at St. Mary’s Stadium, where Southampton hosts Manchester City.

City continued their pursuit of Champions League qualification with a 1-0 win over Wolves last Friday. The win moved City within a point of Arsenal for second.

Southampton fell 2-0 at Leicester City on Matchday 35. Now, they’ll look to pull off a massive upset and capture their first home win since November 2.

Man City vs Southampton: Prediction

Based on Man City’s previous record against promoted teams and their first-half metrics, my Southampton vs Man City prediction is Man City Moneyline: First 30 Minutes (+100).

City owns a 5-0 SU record in their five games against teams 18th or worse this season. However, backing them in these types of matches requires some creativity.

That brings me to City inside the first half hour, which has also hit in all five of their previous matches against newly-promoted teams.

Earlier this season against Southampton, they raced out to a 1-0 advantage inside of five minutes while not allowing a shot until the 45th minute.

Although they’re playing away from home on Saturday, it marks an extended rest spot for Pep Guardiola’s side after playing on Friday.

For Southampton, they’ve avoided dropping the first 30 minutes in three straight home matches. However, they dropped eight of their previous 10 against that prop market prior at home.

That renders this a strong sell-high spot on Southampton, which owns metrics to back up their weak record inside half an hour.

Per understat.com, the Saints recorded a -15.65 expected goal differential inside the opening 30 minutes.

Conversely, Manchester City owns a +7.84 xGDiff in their opening 30 minutes, before adjusting for strength of schedule.

Additionally, it could mark Erling Haaland’s return to the City Starting XI on Saturday. Either way, I like taking City to earn a lead after 30 minutes.
