Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest ahead of their matchup on October 5.
  • Newcastle is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Nottingham Forest.
  • Nottingham has conceded at least one goal in each of its last 14 EPL matches.
  • My Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest prediction depends on Nottingham’s Starting XI.

After a surprise home loss to Sunderland, Nottingham Forest travels to face Newcastle United.

Since a Matchday 1 win against Brentford, Forest has struggled in the league. The Tricky Trees are now winless (D2-L3) over their last five league matches.

On Sunday, they’ll face a Newcastle side that has dominated Forest of late. Over the last six meetings between these teams, Newcastle owns a 5-0-1 (W-D-L) record.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle: Prediction

If Forest announces a Starting XI that fails to feature central defender Murillo, my Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest prediction is Newcastle Over 1.5 Goals (-145).

Forest has yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Dating back to last season, the Tricky Trees have surrendered a goal in 14 straight league matches.

Of course, only five of those 14 teams have cleared 1.5 goals. But it’s also a Forest defense that shipped three goals to both West Ham and Arsenal this campaign.

Newcastle also surpassed 1.5 goals in both head-to-head meetings against Forest last season.

In the most recent meeting at St. James’ Park, the Magpies scored four goals off 2.7 post-shot expected goals, per fotmob.com.

Across both meetings last year, Newcastle scored seven goals against Forest while averaging 2.49 post-shot xG.

For Newcastle, the attack this season has struggled to get going. Only once this season have the Magpies surpassed 1.5 goals – that came at home against Liverpool.

On Matchday 2, Newcastle scored twice off 1.9 post-shot xG while playing a full half down a man.

Generally, Newcastle has also performed better offensively at home.

Dating back to last year, only three road teams have kept a clean sheet at St. James’ Park.

Over Newcastle’s last 22 at home, the team has cleared 1.5 goals 12 times without adjusting for strength of schedule.

Forest also travels on short rest after a Thursday Europa League match, so I like the buy-low spot on Newcastle’s attack.
