Based on Arsenal’s offensive injuries and the team’s cautious approach away from home, my Newcastle vs Arsenal prediction is the Total Under 2.5 Goals (-135).Â
Since last season, unders have proved a staple for Arsenal away from home. Over their last 21 matches, the under is 15-6, including 14-4 when oddsmakers list Arsenal as the favorite.Â
That played out in the reverse fixture at St. James’ Park. Newcastle took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Alexander Isak at 12 minutes, with no goals for the rest of the match.Â
In fact, Arteta’s attack failed to put a shot on target against Newcastle for the entire match.Â
Newcastle’s defense enters Sunday’s match in prime defensive form. Last week, the Magpies traveled to Bournemouth and kept a clean sheet.Â
From an underlying metrics standpoint, Newcastle surrendered only 0.46 xG and 0.26 post-shot xG, per fotmob.com. Last year, Bournemouth outpaced Arsenal in both xG and post-shot xG.Â
