Manchester United vs Aston Villa Prediction & Odds

  • Manchester United is predicted to be a +0.5-goal home underdog against Aston Villa.
  • Aston Villa has won eight of its last nine EPL matches.
  • My Manchester United vs. Aston Villa prediction is the Aston Villa Moneyline.

Needing a win to bolster their Champions League qualification chances, Aston Villa travels to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Villa currently sit fifth in the league after a 2-0 win over Tottenham last Friday. However, a Manchester City result on Tuesday would drop Villa to sixth in the table.

United fell 1-0 at Chelsea last Friday and face the Europa League Final on Wednesday. In the league, Ruben Amorim’s side has dropped points in eight straight, including six losses.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United: Prediction

Based on Aston Villa’s rest edge and their success behind a strong defensive performance, my Manchester United vs Aston Villa prediction is the Aston Villa Moneyline (-130)

The spot presents a nightmare for United, who face a Wednesday-Sunday schedule. Meanwhile, Villa played last on Friday before an extended rest period.

That should create an advantage for the visitors, who are seeking a ninth win in their last 10.

For Villa to lose this match, United needs to score two or more goals. This season, Unai Emery’s side is unbeaten in the league (W18-D4) when they allow one or fewer goals.

Based on current odds, United is -250 to finish under 1.5 goals. In 14 games immediately following a Europa League fixture this season, United has cleared 1.5 only five times.

Two of those successes came against Leicester City, one of the league’s worst defenses. Another came at Brentford, who gained a 4-1 edge after 74 minutes.

United also managed only 0.6 xG in the reverse fixture at Villa Park. Even with Bruno Fernandes reintroduced here from that match, I still carry low expectations for United.

Plus, Villa have excelled since exiting from the Champions League.

They’re 4-0-1 (W-D-L) in five since their departure with a +0.78 post-shot xGDiff per 90 minutes.

Even when you account for Villa’s schedule this season, they still excel against bad teams.

In 17 games against teams with a negative expected goal differential this season, Villa recorded a 10-4-3 (W-D-L) record, including three straight victories.

As a result, I’ll lay the juice with Villa to earn all three points on Sunday.
