Man United vs Chelsea Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Man United vs Chelsea ahead of their matchup on September 20.
  • Man United is predicted to be a +0.0-goal home underdog against Chelsea.
  • 'Second Half Over 0.5 Goals' has hit in 34 of Chelsea's last 37 EPL away matches.
  • My Man United vs Chelsea prediction is the Second Half Over 1.5 Goals (-125).

After a midweek trip to Germany, Chelsea returns to EPL action as road favorites against Manchester United.

The Blues looked as if they had three points in the bag against Brentford. However, a late equalizer from the Bees resigned Enzo Maresca’s side to a point on Matchday 4.

United’s struggles continued on Matchday 4 at Man City. Ruben Amorim’s side fell 3-0 as road underdogs and now sits at 0-4 ATS through four matches.

Chelsea vs Man United: Prediction

Based on Chelsea’s goal trends away from home and the short rest spot for the visitors, my Man United vs Chelsea prediction is the Second Half Over 1.5 Goals (-125).

These teams combined for only three goals across both meetings last season. All three of those goals came in the second half.

Chelsea struggled to break down Brentford’s low block on Matchday 4 up until halftime.

As larger road favorites – they closed -120 – Chelsea created only 0.3 xG and 0.04 post-shot xG, per fotmob.com. In the second half: 0.95 xG and 2.2 post-shot xG.

Plus, United excelled defensively against Chelsea last season. Across both meetings, Chelsea managed only 0.61 post-shot xG in both first halves.

With United carrying a rest advantage over Chelsea, I like their defensive outlook early in the game.

At the same time, I still carry questions about United’s attack in this spot.

A three-goal output against Burnley rates out as United’s best performance of the season. However, it came against only 2.18 post-shot xG, 0.76 of which came via a penalty kick.

A couple of other notable trends are worth considering. First, 34 of Chelsea’s last 37 road games saw at least one goal in the second half.

Over Chelsea’s last 21 road matches, 11 have cleared 1.5 goals in the second half. The same can be said of United’s last 21 at home.

As a result, I like goals to come in the second half at Old Trafford on Sunday.
