  • Man City is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Man United.
  • Manchester City has won 21 of its last 24 EPL home matches following a league loss.
  • My Man City vs Man United prediction is the Manchester City 1H Moneyline (+115).

The Manchester Derby closes out Matchday 4 as Man City hosts Manchester United.

City fell 2-1 at Brighton prior to the international break. It marked another failure for City to keep a lead as Pep Guardiola’s side conceded two second-half goals.

Manchester United struggled as a heavy favorite against Burnley. However, a Bruno Fernandes penalty on the last kick of the game earned Ruben Amorim’s side all three points.

Check out the Premier League odds and my Man City vs Man United prediction.

Man United vs Man City: Prediction

Based on Man City’s strong record in the first half and the historical record of early goals at the Etihad, my Man City vs Man United prediction is the Man City 1H Moneyline (+115).

I’m also tempted by City’s moneyline for the game. However, the recent precedent of City consistently blowing leads sways me to the first half angle.

Each of City’s last 24 home matches have seen at least one goal in the opening half. It has also hit in 43 of City’s previous 45 matches at the Etihad.

Over the former span, City have scored a first-half goal in 21 of those 24 halves.

At Brighton, City dominated the opening half. They secured a 1-0 lead by the interval, winning 1.1-0.17 on post-shot expected goals, per fotmob.com.

United failed to produce strong starts against competent sides. Amorim’s side managed only 0.46 post-shot xG at Fulham and 0.43 at home against Arsenal.

The Red Devils also struggled massively in its last trip to the Etihad. As similarly big road underdogs, Amorim’s side failed to put a shot on target in the first half.

Meanwhile, City created 0.86 post-shot xG in the opening half. That led to a 1-0 halftime advantage for City before the break.

Lastly, United struggled to score in the opening half last season.

In 19 road matches, the Red Devils managed a first-half goal only five times. Three of those five successes came against teams that were eventually relegated.

As a result, I like taking the plus-money on City to lead at halftime, given they’re priced at -165 to score a first-half goal.
