Man City vs Aston Villa Prediction & Odds

  • Man City is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Aston Villa.
  • Manchester City is unbeaten in their last seven matches as home favorites.
  • My Man City vs. Aston Villa prediction is Manchester City over 1.5 goals.

It’s a midweek clash between two European hopefuls with Manchester City set to host Aston Villa.

City face a weekend trip to Everton before returning home on short rest. Earlier this season, City fell 2-1 as road favorites against Aston Villa.

Villa also feature on Saturday with a home match against Newcastle United. On Tuesday, Unai Emery’s side will look to continue a three-match winning streak away from home.

Check out the Premier League odds and my Man City vs. Aston Villa prediction

Aston Villa vs Man City: Prediction

Based on Man City’s home attacking prowess, despite Erling Haaland’s absence, my Man City vs Aston Villa prediction is Man City Over 1.5 Goals (-175)

It’s a touch too much juice for my liking, though, so I’ll pair it with the Newcastle United Moneyline against Ipswich Town. That brings the price down to -104.

Irrespective of price, Haaland’s absence hasn’t affected City as much as one would think, largely at home.

Dating back to January 1, City cleared this number in six of seven at the Etihad. The lone failure came as home dogs to Liverpool, which rank second in post-shot expected goals allowed.

Aston Villa, prior to the weekend fixtures, sit 11th in that category. Last weekend, City played a Palace team one spot ahead and scored five goals off 11 big chances, per fotmob.com.

Comparatively, Villa have struggled to limit opponent chances away from home. Only this season’s EPL newcomers have allowed more expected goals on the road, per fbref.com.

It’s also a strong sell-high spot on Villa, which have kept three straight road clean sheets.

While successes against Brentford and Brighton offer slight concern, City owns a six and eight-spot advantage, respectively, over those teams in home expected goals.

City also leads a group of five teams that have created at least 28 expected goals at home.

This will mark Villa’s fourth trip to one of those teams. Against the other three – Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham – Villa allowed at least two goals in all three.

From a metrics standpoint, Emery’s side surrendered six expected goals and 6.4 post-shot xG.

As a result, I like City’s offensive success to continue against a Villa side traveling on short rest.
