Liverpool vs. Newcastle Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

  • Liverpool is a -1.5-goal home favorite against Newcastle.
  • Liverpool has won 11 straight EPL night matches at Anfield following a league win.
  • My Liverpool vs. Newcastle prediction focuses on the pregame over/under.

Looking to broaden their advantage atop the table, Liverpool return from a road trip to face Newcastle United.

Arne Slot’s side holds an 11-point advantage for the title after a 2-0 weekend win over Manchester City. Now they’ll return home, where Liverpool is unbeaten in 10 league games.

Newcastle captured a 4-3 home win over the weekend against Nottingham Forest. Currently, the Magpies sit fifth in the league table and trail fourth-place Man City only on goal difference.

Check out the Premier League odds and my Liverpool vs. Newcastle prediction.

Liverpool vs. Newcastle Prediction

Based on Newcastle’s defensive struggles against good attacks and their offensive success against Liverpool, my Liverpool vs. Newcastle prediction is Over 3.5 Goals (+100).

There’s a real chance Liverpool could clear this on their own based on Newcastle’s weak record against strong attacks.

Eddie Howe’s side has played four matches against teams fifth or better in post-shot expected goals since December.

All four opponents scored at least three goals with three straight amassing four goals against Newcastle’s defense, which sits ninth in post-shot xGA.

Liverpool, which leads the league in post-shot expected goals, slipped three past Newcastle in the first match of that four-game run. By post-shot xG, the Reds created 3.4.

Across all four matches – Liverpool, Brentford, Bournemouth, Manchester City – Newcastle surrendered 3.15 post-shot xGA per 90 minutes.

At the same time, Newcastle created 2.5 post-shot xG and 2.1 xG against Liverpool’s defense in the reverse fixture.

That marks two straight against Liverpool in which Newcastle created at least 1.4 post-shot xG.

History also likes this match clearing 3.5 goals.

Since last season, matches featuring a total set at 3.5 goals are 29-8 to the over, assuming two factors:

  • The away team’s average number of goals falls between 1.5 and 2.1
  • The away team’s average number of goals allowed falls between 1.2 and 1.5

When that match also features a home favorite: 19-4 to over 3.5 goals.

As a result, I like Wednesday’s match featuring loads of goals.
