Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction & Odds

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Bournemouth vs Liverpool ahead of their matchup on August 15 at Anfield.
  • Liverpool is predicted to be a -1.5-goal home favorite against Bournemouth.
  • Liverpool has won each of its last six EPL home matches against Bournemouth.
  • My Liverpool vs Bournemouth prediction is for Bournemouth to cover the spread.

Title winners Liverpool begin the 2025 season with a standalone match against Bournemouth.

The Reds cruised to a 2024 title in Arne Slot’s first season. Ten points separated Liverpool from chasers Arsenal and 13 points from Man City.

Slot’s side opens this campaign against an opponent they’ve dominated. Last year, Liverpool won both games against Bournemouth by a 5-0 aggregate margin.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool: Prediction

Based on the previous success of large underdogs in this spot, my Liverpool vs Bournemouth prediction is the Bournemouth Spread (+1.5, -115).

Trusting the Cherries in this spot is nerve-wrecking to say the least. In the same fixture last year, Bournemouth lost 3-0 at Anfield while allowing 3.84 post-shot expected goals, per fotmob.com.

While Bournemouth created 1.53 post-shot xG, 1.09 came in the second half down 3-0.

The core evidence supporting a bet on the Cherries? Big road underdogs tend to do well at various points in the season.

Since 2012, 1.5-goal road dogs are 86-49 ATS (63.7%), assuming two factors:

  • The game is played in August, October-December or May
  • The dog’s previous head-to-head result falls between -7 and -1

Just in August: 23-6 ATS. When those dogs lost by multiple goals: 54-26 ATS (67.5%), including 16-5 in August.

In spite of those percentages, I worry about backing a Bournemouth side that lost key pieces this summer.

Left back Milos Kerkez left for Liverpool while central defender Dean Huijsen left for Real Madrid. Additionally, Kepa Arrizabalaga returned to Chelsea after his loan ended.

All of those departures could impact a Bournemouth defense that ran very lucky last season. Last year, Bournemouth conceded 46 goals off 54.8 post-shot xG, the largest gap in the league.

If an argument exists against Liverpool, it’s that the amount of roster turnover could lead to a slow(er) start with fewer blowouts.

Additionally, Liverpool struggled to cover the spread against big numbers last season.

Last year, the Reds closed at -275 or higher 16 times. It finished the season 3-12-1 ATS in those spots, including the home success against Bournemouth.
