Everton vs Aston Villa Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Everton vs Aston Villa ahead of their matchup on September 13.
  • Everton is predicted to be a -0.5 home favorite against Aston Villa.
  • 'Second Half Over 0.5’ has hit in 21 of Aston Villa's last 22 EPL matches as an underdog.
  • My Everton vs Aston Villa prediction is Everton Draw, No Bet (-140).

Everton aim to continue a strong start to the Premier League season at home against Aston Villa.

David Moyes’ side picked up a 3-2 win over Wolves before the break. By earning all three points, Everton jumped to fifth in the league table.

Villa dropped all three points against Crystal Palace in a 3-0 loss on Matchday 3. Currently, Unai Emery’s side sits in the relegation zone with only one point through three matches.

Aston Villa vs Everton: Prediction

Based on Everton’s strong metrics in the most recent meeting against Aston Villa and Villa’s weak defense, my Everton vs Aston Villa prediction is Everton Draw, No Bet (-140).

Whether Everton earns all three points here is a close call, given the tight spread. However, I carry reasonable confidence that the Toffees earn at least a point at home.

Villa looked horrible against Crystal Palace. In a 3-0 loss, they surrendered 2.6 expected goals and 2.4 post-shot xG, per fbref.com.

Normally, that would create a strong buy-low spot on Villa. However, these short favorites actually perform well against teams off a bad loss.

Since 2012, favorites between +123 and +160 against a team off a 3-4 goal loss are 40-37 (51.9%). Of those 77 teams, 63 earned at least a point.

Even if you set that trend aside, Everton proved unlucky in its last match against Villa.

At home under Moyes, Everton lost 1-0. However, expected goals finished 1.21-1.14 in Villa’s favor, with post-shot xG rating the match a 0.9-0.8 win for Everton.

Plus, Everton could return central defender Jarrad Branthwaite for Saturday’s match. Should that happen, it immediately bolsters a defense that has looked shaky at times.

No such defensive reinforcements are coming for Villa, which has struggled defensively. All three opponents have generated at least one expected goal so far against Villa.

Even more concerning for Villa? Only four sides have created fewer non-penalty expected goals through three matches.

Plus, Everton has dropped all three points only five times since Moyes’ arrival. Accordingly, I like the hosts to earn a point at minimum.
