Burnley vs Liverpool Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Burnley vs Liverpool ahead of their matchup on September 14.
  • Burnley is predicted to be a +1.5-goal home underdog against Liverpool.
  • Liverpool has scored at least one goal in each of its last 37 EPL matches.
  • My Burnley vs Liverpool prediction is the Liverpool Team Total Over 2.5 (+120).

Liverpool aims to continue its perfect start to the season as heavy favorites against Burnley.

The Reds secured all three points against Arsenal with a late goal at Anfield. It marks the third win in a row for Arne Slot’s side in its title defense.

Burnley fought admirably at Manchester United on Matchday 3. The Clarets slipped two goals past United, but dropped all three points on a late penalty kick from United.

Liverpool vs Burnley: Prediction

Based on Burnley’s poor defensive record this year and Liverpool’s offensive success against bad defenses last year, my Burnley vs Liverpool prediction is Liverpool Over 2.5 Goals (+120).

I’m surprised at the price here on Liverpool. Last year, Slot’s attack excelled against the league’s worst defenses.

In six games against eventually relegated sides, Liverpool cleared this number four times.

A slight concern exists in that most of those successes came at home. Of those four achievements, three came with Liverpool playing at Anfield.

Here’s a breakdown of the underlying metrics based on venue in those matches

  • Home Games: 10 goals off 8 expected and 8.4 post-shot xG
  • Road Games: 6 goals off 8.2 expected and 6.9 post-shot xG

The potential silver lining? Burnley’s defense looks like the worst in the league.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United cleared this number. The only success for Burnley came against Sunderland, a fellow promoted side.

For Liverpool, Sunday’s match represents a buy-low opportunity. Arsenal, which led the league in expected goals allowed last year, kept the Reds below this number.

However, Liverpool excelled offensively against Bournemouth and Newcastle. In those fixtures, Slot’s attack managed seven goals off 5.3 post-shot xG, per fbref.com.

In each of those two fixtures, Liverpool managed at least 2.3 post-shot xG.

Add in the arrival of Alexander Isak, and I like the price here on Liverpool with extended time to prepare.
