Brighton vs Tottenham Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Brighton vs Tottenham ahead of their matchup on September 20.
  • Brighton is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Tottenham.
  • Brighton has won five of its last six EPL home matches following a league loss.
  • My Brighton vs Tottenham prediction is the Tottenham Spread (+0.5, -160).

Tottenham looks to continue its positive start to the season as a road underdog against Brighton.

Thomas Frank’s side captured a 3-0 win over West Ham on Matchday 4. It gives the new Spurs manager three wins out of four to begin the campaign.

Brighton fell 2-1 at Bournemouth on Saturday. With the loss, Fabian Huerzler’s side fell to 1-3 ATS in its first four matches. Currently, Brighton sits on only four points.

Tottenham vs Brighton: Prediction

Based on the market’s perception of Tottenham and Brighton’s injury issues on defense, my Brighton vs Tottenham prediction is the Tottenham Spread (+0.5, -160).

So long as Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero play on Saturday, no reason exists that Tottenham should close as a road dog in this spot.

I recognize it’s a short rest spot for Spurs. Frank’s side plays a midweek Champions League match at home on Tuesday before a trip to the Amex on Saturday.

That’s about the only advantage Brighton carries over Tottenham. And yes, I recognize that Brighton took six points from six against Tottenham last season.

But the circumstances around those matches must be considered.

In the first meeting, Brighton hosted Tottenham, who played a Thursday match in Hungary before a Sunday match against the Seagulls. Tottenham still took a 2-0 lead but lost 3-2.

Then, Tottenham hosted Brighton in a 4-1 loss. However, it came after a Europa League final triumph that left little meaning for that match.

From a historical standpoint, short dogs playing a team that blew them out tend to perform well in the next meeting.

Half-goal dogs in matches 3-22 are 75-38 ATS, assuming two factors:

  • The juice on the spread falls between -165 and +119
  • The dog’s previous head-to-head margin is -3 or -2

Just at a -3 head-to-head margin: 28-9 ATS.

Plus, Tottenham excelled as a road underdog earlier this year against Manchester City.

Against a team I rate ahead of Brighton, Tottenham won 2-0 with a 2.08-0.64 post-shot xGDiff, per fotmob.com.

All of those signals are enough to counteract the rest spot. While it’s a lot of juice to lay, I like backing Tottenham to earn a result on Saturday.
