Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Brentford vs Chelsea ahead of their matchup on September 13.
  • Brentford is predicted to be a +0.5-goal home underdog against Chelsea.
  • Brentford has scored at least one goal in each of its last 10 EPL matches.
  • My Brentford vs Chelsea prediction is the Chelsea Moneyline (-130).

Chelsea goes for a third straight league win as a road favorite against Brentford.

The Blues earned a 2-0 win over Fulham on Matchday 3 and are unbeaten to start the year. In those three games, Chelsea leads the Premier League in expected goal differential.

Brentford blew a 1-0 lead late at Sunderland on Matchday 3. In good news for the Bees, they’ve managed a goal in 10 straight league matches and drew Chelsea 0-0 in the last meeting.

Check out the Premier League odds and my Brentford vs Chelsea prediction.

Chelsea vs Brentford: Prediction

Based on Chelsea’s defensive success and the historical success on short road favorites, my Brentford vs Chelsea prediction is the Chelsea Moneyline (-130).

It’s a slightly poor spot for Chelsea, who won’t have Liam Delap or Cole Palmer. Additionally, they get Bayern Munich in the Champions League the following Wednesday.

But I maintain the market underrates Chelsea so far. Through three matches, Chelsea holds a +1.38 expected goal differential per 90 minutes, per fbref.com.

That marks the best differential in the league so far, albeit in a limited sample.

What’s most impressive about Chelsea is the defensive record. Only Arsenal has conceded fewer expected goals to date than Chelsea.

Dating back to last season, Chelsea performs well when the defense shines. Including matches this season, here’s Chelsea’s performances by goals allowed:

  • When Allowing Zero or One Goal: 19-8-1 (W-D-L)
  • When Allowing Two or More Goals: 3-2-8 (W-D-L)

Brentford’s attack struggled last year against Chelsea. In the most recent meeting between these teams, the Bees created only 1.1 xG and 0.5 post-shot xG.

The draw proved lucky for Brentford by post-shot xG. Chelsea posted a +0.6 differential in April, despite playing on short rest.

No such spot exists following an international break. Plus, history suggests it’s a prime spot to take Chelsea at a short number.

Since 2012, favorites in matches 2-6 are 44-13 SU, assuming three factors:

  • The favorite closed as a market favorite in its last game
  • The closing moneyline falls between -135 and -102
  • The previous head-to-head result falls between -2 and +6

Just in matches 2-4, those favorites improve to 30-4. Within the initial sample, road favorites are 25-5 SU.

Based on those factors, I like the price on Chelsea to earn all three points.
