  • Aston Villa is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Fulham.
  • Aston Villa has won each of its last six league matches against Fulham at Villa Park.
  • My Aston Villa vs Fulham prediction is the Total Under 2.5 Goals (-145).

Aston Villa go for its first win of the Premier League season as home favorites to Fulham on Sunday.

Villa gained an opportunity to take three points from Sunderland. A Sunderland red card on 36 minutes handed Villa an advantage, but the visitors settled for a point.

Fulham, meanwhile, throttled Brentford 3-1 as home favorites. Marco Silva’s side fell behind 1-0, but scored three unanswered goals to jump into the top half of the table.

Fulham vs Aston Villa: Prediction

Based on Villa’s poor attacking metrics this season and Fulham’s lucky offensive performance last week, my Aston Villa vs Fulham prediction is the Total Under 2.5 Goals (-145).

While it’s a steep price to lay, a high-scoring fixture here would genuinely shock me.

Villa rank last in the Premier League at 3.7 expected goals through five matches. Post-shot expected goals came out worse for Villa at 1.6 psxG through five matches.

In the last head-to-head meeting at Villa Park, Villa generated only 0.96 xG and 1.24 post-shot xG, per fotmob.com.

Plus, Villa plays Sunday on short rest. Unai Emery’s side faces a home Europa League match on Thursday before playing Fulham.

The good news for Villa? It’s a prime sell-high spot on Fulham. Last week against Brentford, Silva’s team scored three goals off 0.85 post-shot xG.

For the entire season, the Irons rank 17th in post-shot expected goals (4). Prior to last week’s 3-1 game against Brentford, four straight Fulham matches finished under 2.5 goals.

Additionally, recent Fulham road trips have trended toward the under.

Over Fulham’s last five road matches as a road underdog, four finished under a 2.5-goal total.

A high correlation also exists with road unders and Fulham’s defensive results.

Since last season, Fulham has conceded one or fewer goals on the road 14 times. Eight of those 14 matches stayed under 2.5 goals.

With oddsmakers pricing Villa at -190 to finish under 1.5 goals, I predict a low-scoring game on Sunday.
