Following the first tournament and first PGA Tour signature event of the 2025 season, the first full-field event was the Sony Open in Hawaii, Jan. 9-12.
It was played at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. While both events are in Hawaii, they’re very different.
The Plantation Course is wide open and yields plenty of birdies, rewarding the longer hitters. Meanwhile, Waialae Country Club is much tighter, so the scores historically are not quite as low.
In an exciting tournament and final round, Nick Taylor won on the second playoff hole over Nico Echavarria. He eagled the 18th in regulation to get into the playoff.
The pair finished at 16-under.
The event has a purse of $8.7 million.
