  • The FedEx St. Jude Championship is August 7-10.
  • Scottie Scheffler (+300) has the best odds to win.
  • Sam Burns, Russell Henley and J.J. Spaun are primed to play well this week.

The first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs is here, with the FedEx St. Jude Championship from Memphis.

The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings have qualified. Every eligible player is teeing it up except Rory McIlroy, so it will be a 69-player field.

Going into the week, Scottie Scheffler has the best odds to win at +300.

Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion.

TPC Southwind will host the event once again. Players will have a bunch of approach shots in the 125-175 yard range, so players with the best wedge game tend to have an advantage over others. Length is not as significant of an advantage as it is at other courses.

Winning scores are generally in the 15 to 17-under range, so birdies will be made, but it will not be a complete birdie fest.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Prediction

Scottie Scheffler is predicted to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a 25% implied probability, according to betting markets. Xander Schauffele is next at 6.67%.

Implied probability is the overall chance of a potential outcome in relation to the odds.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Prop Bets

Sam Burns Outright Winner (+3300)

Burns checks a lot of boxes when it comes to what is needed to play well at TPC Southwind, including Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, Scrambling and Putting.

Those aren’t the only factors going his way. Burns is on the Ryder Cup team bubble and will be looking to improve his place in the United States Ryder Cup rankings to earn a spot on Keegan Bradley’s team.

In addition, Burns has two past top-5 finishes here, including a T-5 a year ago.

Russell Henley Top-10 Finish (+200)

Henley has been incredibly consistent of late, logging four straight top-10 finishes, including a T-2 at the Travelers Championship.

The Georgia Bulldog will more than likely earn his way onto the Ryder Cup team via points, but will be looking to continue his strong play to close out a very successful season, which was highlighted by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Specific to TPC Southwind, he has two career top-10 finishes here.

J.J. Spaun Top-20 Finish (+130)

Like Henley, Spaun is a lock for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, but he’ll be looking to end his career year in style with a showing in the playoffs.

Spaun’s iron game is perfect for TPC Southwind, which will give him an advantage over the other 68 players in the field.

He’s coming off a top-25 finish at the Open Championship.
