DP World Tour Championship Picks: Who to Target in Dubai

The biggest professional golf tournament of the week is inarguably being contested in Dubai, where the Euro circuit will once again play its season finale.

First, the good news: This is a limited-field, no-cut event with a $10 million purse and all the elite-level members that we’d like to watch – including LIV regulars Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed and Tom McKibbin (though not Jon Rahm).

Now, the bad news: If you’re hoping for a longshot, you’ll have to keep your fingers crossed that Rory McIlroy (+400), who’s the defending champion and a three-time winner and fresh off a final-round 62 in Abu Dhabi for a T-3 result, somehow doesn’t close out another year-long DP World title. And if you’re trying to avoid McIlroy, you might as well cross some other fingers in hopes that newly minted world-beater Tommy Fleetwood (+500) doesn’t win, either.

I’ve got a difficult time believing it won’t be one of those two in the winner’s circle at week’s end. Perhaps a 1-2 exacta play is the right way to approach this one – or maybe a Rory outright parlayed with a Tommy top-five chaser. Could even throw in your fave NFL/CFB/NBA/NHL bet to sweeten the odds.

If you’re hellbent on going with a longer outright, my recommendation is that you still not delve too deep, as the 10-year history at this one shows there isn’t a one-hit wonder in the bunch. I could see a play on Alex Noren (+2000), who was runner-up three years ago, or the aforementioned Patrick Reed (+4000), who was runner-up four years before that.
