- The British Open from Royal Portrush is July 17-20.
- Scottie Scheffler (+500) has the best odds to win.
- Tommy Fleetwood is +225 to finish inside the top 10.
The fourth and final golf major is here with the British Open from Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
The event was last held here in 2019, when Shane Lowry won by six shots and finished at 15-under in rainy conditions throughout the week.
Scores this week will be dictated by the weather, especially the wind. If the winds are calm, scores will likely be low. If there is a lot of wind, scores could be high.
Going into the week, Scottie Scheffler has the best odds to win at +500.
When it comes to selecting players, it’s hard to look extensively at metrics because links-style golf is so much different than playing on typical PGA Tour courses in America.
It’s better to prioritize past history, not only at this tournament, but also past history at links-style courses in general.
*odds as of July 15
British Open Prediction
Scottie Scheffler is predicted to win the British Open with a 16.67% implied probability, according to betting markets. Rory McIlroy is next at 12.5%.
Implied probability is the overall chance of a potential outcome in relation to the odds.
British Open Prop Bets
Jon Rahm Outright Winner (+1200)
Rahm is perhaps flying a bit under the radar this week, but has had a ton of success in majors dating back to last year’s Open Championship.
He has finished T-14 or better in four straight majors, including three finishes T-8 or better. Another thing going his way is finishing T-11 the last time the Open Championship was held at Royal Portrush in 2019.
On LIV, while he’s yet to win this year, he has finished T-11 or better in all 10 events, including four top-5 finishes.
Russell Henley Outright Winner (+5000)
It’s been an up-and-down year for Henley. After winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, a PGA Tour signature event, he missed the cut in the year’s first two majors and didn’t do much in other events. But he’s turned it around of late.
Henley has three straight top-10 finishes, including at the U.S. Open.
Specific to the Open Championship, he finished fifth last year.
Ranked No. 5 in the world, Henley is one of the best players who has yet to win a major.
Tommy Fleetwood Top-10 Finish (+225)
Fleetwood will be a popular player this week after nearly winning the Travelers Championship last month and finishing runner-up to Lowry at Royal Portrush in 2019.
He’s in the midst of a very consistent season, logging four top-10 finishes in his last eight events overall.
Adam Scott Top-20 Finish (+250)
At age 44, Scott has put more of an emphasis on the bigger events with a smaller schedule, and obviously, this fits the bill.
Scott is coming off a T-17 at the Genesis Scottish Open and will be looking for revenge following a tough 79 on Sunday of the U.S. Open when he was in contention.
Overall, he has nine top-20 finishes at the Open Championship, including a T-10 last year.
