Who Has the Longest NHL Active Games Played Streak?

Hockey is one of the more grueling sports out there, anyone that plays professionally needs to have some advanced level of grit. 

NHL players are widely known for their ability to play through injuries, especially when their teams need it the most. 

But there’s a select few ‘iron men’ in the NHL who don’t take days off, including some who’ve played more than 200 games in a row. 

Here’s a list of the longest active games played streaks in the NHL.

Who Has the Longest NHL Active Games Played Streak?

Brent Burns

Defenceman Brent Burns currently has the longest active streak of games played with 925. 

His streak began in November of 2013 when he was a member of the San Jose Sharks. Burns missed 13 games early in the 2013-14 season and hasn’t missed a game since. 

His streak is the fourth longest in NHL history and he’s 139 games away from tying the all-time record for most consecutive games played held by Phil Kessel, who didn’t miss a game from November of 2009 to April of 2023. 

Burns played last season with the Carolina Hurricanes and signed a one-year $1 million with the Colorado Avalanche this offseason to extend his career. 

If current unrestricted free agent Ryan Suter doesn’t return to the league this upcoming season, Burns will become the oldest active player in the NHL at 40-years-old. 

Burns is a six-time All-Star and won the Norris Trophy in 2017.
