Maybe it’s too early to say which teams will win the Stanley Cup or which teams will win the Presidents’ Trophy, but we may have seen enough through a couple of weeks in the NHL season to know which teams are the worst.
Still, even some of the teams currently favored to finish the season with the fewest regular-season points are still frisky teams that could go on a run.
Here’s where the odds stand as of December 10 on which team will finish the 2025-26 regular season with the fewest points.
NHL Odds: Fewest Regular-Season Points
| Rank | Team | Odds |
| 1 | Blackhawks | 200 |
| 2 | Sharks | 250 |
| 3 | Penguins | 700 |
| 4 | Kraken | 1100 |
| 5 | Bruins | 1500 |
| 6 | Flames | 2500 |
| 7 | Flyers | 2500 |
| 8 | Islanders | 2800 |
| 9 | Ducks | 3000 |
| 10 | Red Wings | 3000 |
Who’s Favored to Have the Fewest Points?
San Jose Sharks (+375)
I don’t really know what phase of the Sharks’ rebuild we’re in right now, and I’m not sure if San Jose fans really even care.
It’s like facing setbacks while building a house on an amazing oceanfront property. When it’s done, it’s probably going to be really good, so any problems right now are just momentary blips on a journey towards something great.
Who cares if you can’t find the right subcontractors, or if it’s a million dollars over budget, or if the finish date has been moved back by a few years?
Right now, Sharks fans are probably just happy to visit the construction site every few weeks and say, “Maybe I could put a TV here someday,” or “I could drink my morning coffee on the balcony here.”
Maybe someday you’ll find out that the land is haunted, or there’s a massive sinkhole hiding under where you’re putting the man cave, but that’s a problem for future you.
Currently, San Jose has a 14-14-3 record and sits at fifth place in the Pacific Division, which is a decent spot to be in a quarter of the way into the season. They’ve got 31 points so far, which is leaps and bounds better than the current worst team in the league, which is Vancouver at 22 points.
If the season ended today, the Sharks would be tied with Utah for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
With some moves to be made this trade deadline and further development of their young talent, it’s very possible that San Jose could surprise everyone and not only finish in last place but also make the playoffs.
Maybe that housewarming party can come early.
