As of the writing of this piece, we’re about a quarter of the way through the 2025-26 NHL season. And now is a good time to see how the odds have shifted around in the Vezina Trophy voting.

For the unaware, the Vezina Trophy is awarded each year to the league’s top goaltender, as determined by the NHL’s general managers.

Right now, BetMGM’s odds reflect a surprising sea-change at the goaltending position. The reigning winner, Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets, is (spoiler alert) in 10th place, which is the longest his odds have been in a long time. In the spring of 2026, we may see a new Vezina winner for the first time since 2023.

Here’s a look at where those Vezina odds stand as of December 9.

Who’s Favored to Win the 2025-26 Vezina Trophy?

Logan Thompson, Capitals (+175)

Logan Thompson has been a major factor in Washington’s success so far this season. The Capitals have an 18-9-3 record, which leads the Metropolitan Division.

Much of the credit for that start has to go to Thompson and his insane 1.96 GAA, which is just a tick under the league leader, Minnesota’s Jesper Wallstedt, who has a 1.95 GAA. Thompson also has a .925 save percentage.

In the advanced categories, Thompson is doing great as well. He leads the league in goals saved above average with 14 and is tied with Chicago’s Spencer Knight for second in goalie point shares at 4.9.

After Thompson lost his starting role in Vegas to Adin Hill two seasons ago and requested a trade, he’s had a career resurgence.

Last season, his first with the Capitals, he finished fourth in Vezina voting after posting a 2.49 GAA, the best of his career, and a .910 save percentage.

If Thompson can maintain his current level of play, he’ll have a great chance to unseat Hellebuyck in the voting this spring.
