Odds are up for this year’s Frank J. Selke Trophy winner, and the field is looking almost identical to previous years.Â
First, for the uninitiated, the Selke Trophy is awarded each year to the best defensive forward in the game. Like other NHL awards, it’s voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.Â
The most recent winner is Panthers’ forward Aleksander Barkov, who won the Selke Trophy for a third time this past season.Â

Who’s Favored to Win the Selke?
Barkov currently has minus-odds to win his fourth Selke Trophy this upcoming season. This is the only major award in the NHL right now that has minus-odds in the preseason.Â
Barkov first won the award after his play in the 2020-21 season and then won back-to-back trophies in 2024 and 2025.Â
If he wins again this season, Barkov would become the second forward in league history to have four Selke Trophies after Bob Gainey won four straight when the award was first introduced.Â
Former Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron has the record for most Selke wins with six.Â
Barkov has had significant contributions to Florida’s elite defense and forecheck over the last few seasons. Last season, the Panthers ranked seventh in goals allowed and tenth in penalty kill percentage.Â
