The Art Ross Trophy is one of the handful of minor NHL trophies that are handed out each year. The Ross is awarded to the league’s points leader at the end of each season.Â
It was first awarded in 1948 and was named after Hall of Fame player, coach, and general manager Art Ross.Â
The reigning winner is Nikita Kucherov, who had 121 points — 37 goals and 84 assists — in 78 games played last season. It was Kucherov’s third time winning the award.Â
Here’s the current odds ranking for the Art Ross Trophy for this upcoming season as of September 2.

Who’s Favored to Win the Art Ross Trophy?
Connor McDavid is currently favored to win the Art Ross Trophy next season. McDavid is already a five-time winner of the award, with his most recent win coming in the 2022-23 season when he had 153 points.Â
McDavid finished sixth in points last season with 100, comprised of 26 goals and 74 assists, in 67 games played. This was his lowest point total since the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 regular season.
In the 2023-24 season, McDavid finished third in overall points with 132.Â
It makes sense that McDavid is favored, given his pedigree and stature in the league, but should we be treating last year’s points total as an outlier or as a new normal?
To give him some credit, he did miss a good chunk of games due to injury. However, he played in 11 fewer games during the 2020-21 season and scored five more points than he did this past year.Â
If you want to say last year was an outlier, then there’s sufficient evidence to agree with you. McDavid is only 28 years old, so, using the traditional definition of what a prime looks like, he should still have a season or two in peak form.Â
But with the further emergence of Draisaitl as his Edmonton co-star, his days of shouldering a significant offensive load could be over.Â
