What Is Scorigami? And Is It Becoming More Common?

If you consume a lot of pro football via social media, you’ve probably seen reference to a mystical-sounding concept: Scorigami.

Yes, it’s just a random thing that some guy made up. You’re not crazy, and you didn’t miss a day in football school.

Still, if you want to be in on the bit, I’ve written this handy explanation for what it is.

What Is Scorigami?

Scorigami is based on the idea that some NFL games end with unique scores that have never happened before. A first-of-its-kind final score is called a scorigami.

Scorigami can technically exist in any sport – I follow one social media account that tracks it specifically for West Virginia men’s basketball games – but it exists in the popular consciousness primarily as an NFL concept.

Is Scorigami Becoming More Common?

Not really. It might even be the opposite. 

Some scorigami fans may believe that the rise of fourth-down aggression and 2-point conversions are factors driving an increase in the scorigami rate. 

But the opposite is just as likely to be true. An increase in the 2-point try rate, specifically, helps polarize scores at key numbers that are multiples of 3 or 7. 

Weird stuff can always happen – hence, the mere existence of the concept of scorigami. But on the whole, NFL fans have actually seen fewer scorigamis during the 2025 season. With the end of the season approaching, there have only been four this year.

If that number holds, it’ll be the second straight year that the number of NFL scorigamis has decreased. 

The recent high-water mark was 2020, when there were 11 scorigamis.
