In NFL spread betting, a -2.5 spread means that a team (the favorite) must win by at least three points to cover the spread.
The underdog can cover the spread either losing by two or fewer points or winning the game.
For example, if Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets won a regular season game against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans, 17-14, bettors who favored a -2.5 point spread would win.Â
However, if the Jets won 17-16, anyone who bet Jets -2.5 would lose against the spread.
