  • The Texans are currently a 2.5-point home favorite against the Buccaneers.
  • The Texans have won each of their last five games against the Buccaneers.
  • My lookahead Texans vs Buccaneers prediction is Under 46.5 Points (-110)

In the first game of a Monday Night Football doubleheader, the Texans will host the Buccaneers.

These teams met two years ago in C.J. Stroud’s rookie season. Houston picked up a 39-37 win over Tampa Bay, their fifth straight win against Tampa Bay.

For Houston, Monday’s game offers a chance to bolster its home record under Stroud. Since he joined the league, the Ohio State alum is 9-2 SU as a home favorite.

Texans vs. Buccaneers Prediction

Friday, September 5

Based on Tampa Bay’s injury absentees and DeMeco Ryans’ strong record to the under as a head coach, my Texans vs Buccaneers prediction is Under 46.5 Points (-110).

Chris Godwin definitely won’t feature in Week 2. A decent chance exists that Tristan Wirfs won’t play either.

Wirfs’ potential absence concerns me a lot. Houston possesses one of the league’s best edge rush duos – Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter – and could cause serious problems.

Plus, Texans games have proved an under machine with Ryans. Since he joined the team, Houston has seen 22 of 34 finish under the total.

But the record improves exponentially when the total closes at a relatively high number. In 24 games where the total closes at 42 or higher, the under is 20-4, including 12-0 at home.

Irrespective of the closing number, only four Houston games cleared this number last season.

Additionally, both teams employ new offensive coordinators. That could lead to some growing pains early in the season, when defenses generally perform better.

Since 2022, games featuring a total north of 43 are 107-76-1 to the under in the first six games of the year.

Add in the extra rest for both teams, and I like the under on Monday night.
