Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels have rightfully drawn headlines as top rookie quarterbacks to watch in 2024. They were drafted with the first and second respective picks of this year’s draft.
Four rounds later, the Saints used a fifth-round pick to select Spencer Rattler, who played his college ball at Oklahoma and South Carolina. He initially rose to prominence on the Netflix show “QB1.”
On the surface, it’s probably not a great sign for New Orleans Saints odds that Rattler will play at least a few weeks of the 2024 season in place of the injured Derek Carr.
However, I’m not so sure there’s a ton of drop-off in playmaking from Carr to Rattler. The rookie is a former five-star prospect, and the Saints nabbed him for awfully cheap.
This could be a rookie contract to watch. In the short term, I’ll be looking for good NFL betting lines that incorrectly value Rattler and the Saints.

Spencer Rattler signed a four-year, $4.35 million contract with the Saints after being drafted at No. 150 overall.
Because he was not a first-round pick, Rattler’s contract does not include a fifth-year option, and the only money he is guaranteed is his signing bonus.
