  • Brandon Staley joins the Saints as defensive coordinator this year.
  • Staley spent three years as the Chargers' head coach, going 24-24.
  • As Rams DC in 2020, Staley led a unit first in points and yards allowed.

Brandon Staley moves to New Orleans this year to serve as defensive coordinator.

Staley notably coached the Chargers for three years (2021-23). He finished 24-24 with one playoff win.

Los Angeles replaced Staley with Jim Harbaugh prior to 2024. Last season, Staley joined the 49ers as an assistant head coach.

Arguably, Staley’s biggest accomplishment as head coach: coordinating the 2020 Rams defense.

That year, Los Angeles ranked first in both yards and points per game allowed.

Staley owns three additional years of NFL experience with two teams. From 2017-19, he worked as an outside linebackers coach with the Bears (2017-18) and Broncos (2019).

Before Chicago, Staley acquired a lot of NCAA coaching experience. Of his 11 years coaching college football, five came in the FBS or FCS.

Staley spent three years as a Northern Illinois grad assistant. In 2012, he worked for Tennessee as a graduate assistant.

Later, Staley spent a year with James Madison as the DC and linebackers coach.
