Ravens vs. Texans: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

See the latest NFL Week 5 odds, picks and predictions for Ravens vs. Texans on October 5 at M&T Bank Stadium.
  • The Ravens are a 1.5-point home underdog against the Texans.
  • The Ravens have won each of their eight previous home games against the Texans.
  • My Ravens vs Texans prediction depends on Baltimore’s defensive injury news.

The Ravens aim to end a two-game losing streak at home against the Texans.

Both teams sit at 1-3 after varying results in Week 4. Houston delivered its first win via a 26-0 win and cover against the Titans.

Meanwhile, Baltimore lost 37-20 against the Chiefs. It marks the third time this season Baltimore has allowed north of 30 points.

Ravens vs. Texans Prediction

Thursday, October 2

Madubuike is out for the season in Baltimore. Even more concerning is that Kyle Hamilton popped up on Baltimore’s injury report this week.

All of that, along with the move from Lamar Jackson to Cooper Rush, leads me to pass on this game at the current numbers.

Monday, September 29

Depending on the Ravens’ defensive injury news later in the week, my Ravens vs Texans prediction is the Texans Team Total Under 20.5 Points (-118).

Placing trust in the Ravens defense requires a lot of courage right now.

Justin Madubuike is done for the year, and Baltimore could lose Roquan Smith, Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Van Noy on Sunday.

If news comes back positive on those players, it could create a buy-low spot on Baltimore’s defense.

Although Baltimore ranks 26th in defensive DVOA, three of its games have come against teams seventh or better in offensive DVOA, per ftnfantasy.com.

Only five teams have played harder defensive schedules than Baltimore. Against the closest comparison to Houston – Cleveland in Week 2 – the Ravens surrendered only 17 points.

I don’t buy Houston’s 26-point performance against Tennessee represents the offensive quality. Remember, this team managed only two points against Baltimore last December.

In fairness to Houston, the team has played the league’s 10th-hardest set of defenses.

Accordingly, a case exists where the offense falls somewhere between Cleveland and Baltimore’s other three opponents.

Houston’s team total likely opens at 20.5 points. They’ve cleared that number only once this season.

Depending on Baltimore’s injury reports, I’ll revisit this line later in the week.
