Shula has worked with the Rams since the 2017 NFL season. Since joining the team, he has worked primarily with linebackers:
- 2017-18: Asst. Linebackers Coach
- 2019-20: Outside Linebackers Coach
- 2021: Linebackers Coach
- 2022: Defensive Backs Coach & Def. Pass Game Coordinator
- 2023: Linebackers Coach/Pass Rush Coordinator
Los Angeles then promoted Shula to defensive coordinator prior to the 2024 season. Last year, the Rams ranked 26th in defensive yards allowed and 17th in defensive points allowed.Â
Prior to joining the Rams, Shula worked two years with the San Diego Chargers. There, he worked in defensive quality control.Â
Before joining the NFL, Shula acquired five years of NCAA coaching experience. He began in 2010 as an assistant linebackers coach at Ball State.Â
Three years as an Indiana grad assistant followed before a stop at John Carroll as defensive coordinator.Â
