Sacks have forever been a part of the NFL – since the NFL was founded in 1920, 14 years after the first legal pass in football – but it wasn’t until 1982 that sacks were recorded as an official stat. And two years later, the Chicago Bears set a single-season record for most sacks that still stands today; they had 72 sacks during the 1984 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles nearly matched that regular-season record in 2022, falling just two shy with 70 sacks. They added eight more sacks in three postseason games.
