The SEC set a conference record in 2020 with 15 total first-round draft picks. It’s the most the storied conference has ever had in the first round of the NFL Draft.

While 2019 was a strong college football season for the SEC, finishing with a national title for LSU, it also preempted a strange, all-remote NFL Draft. Draft research and the event itself were both impacted by the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, some teams may have opted to play it conservative with their draft capital and spend first-round picks on historically safe SEC prospects. It was a notably bad year for G5 and FCS prospects, even beyond the first round.

Since 2019, the SEC has averaged about 11 first-round picks per year in the non-2020 NFL drafts.

In total, the SEC has had more draft picks than all other conferences for 18 consecutive years.
