  • Three points is the most common NFL margin of victory.
  • Three, six and seven points account for 30% of all victory margins.
  • Rarely has a 40+ point blowout occurred in the NFL since 2000.

Dating back to the 2000 NFL season, a three-point margin of victory is the most common in the NFL.

Teams have won by a field goal at a 15% clip over the last 25 seasons. That qualifies as the only margin occurring at least 10% of the time.

Seven points is the next frequent margin. Dating back to 2000, teams have won by exactly seven points 9.1% of the time.

At the other end of the spectrum, bettors rarely see a 40-point or more blowout victory.

Only 54 times since 2000 has a team won by at least 40 points in an NFL contest.

Here’s a look at the most frequent margins since 2000 that have occurred at least 2% of the time.
