Lions vs. Bears: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction

See the latest NFL Week 2 odds, picks and predictions for Lions vs. Bears on September 14 at Ford Field.
  • The Lions are a 5.5-point home favorite against the Bears.
  • The Bears have lost 20 of their last 21 Sunday road games.
  • My Bears vs Lions prediction is for the Lions to cover the 1H spread.

Ben Johnson returns to Detroit in Week 2 as the Bears and Lions aim to avoid a 0-2 start.

Chicago took a 17-6 lead against the Vikings on Monday night. However, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy led a second-half comeback to hand Chicago a loss.

The Lions also struggled in Week 1, falling convincingly as road underdogs to the Packers. For Jared Goff he moved to 0-19-1 SU without Sean McVay or Ben Johnson as his playcaller.

Lions vs. Bears Prediction

Tuesday, September 9

Based on Dan Campbell’s strong ATS record in the first half and the rest advantage for Detroit, my Lions vs Bears prediction is the Lions 1H Spread.

Detroit enters Sunday’s game with a massive rest advantage. For Chicago, they’ve lost 11 straight games when playing with a rest disadvantage.

From a historical standpoint, previous MNF favorites struggle to cover in the first half.

Since 2005, dogs that closed as a favorite on MNF against a team on normal rest are 36-53-1 ATS in the first half, per Bet Labs.

Even more concerning for Detroit? Dan Campbell excels in the first half. As Detroit head coach, Campbell owns a 50-29-2 (63%) ATS record in the opening half.

He has proven especially good in that spot as a favorite. Campbell is 28-9 ATS in the opening half as a favorite, including 10-2 as a favorite off a loss.

The bigger the defeat, the better Campbell performs in the next first half. Coming off a loss by six or more points: 17-7 ATS, including 7-1 as a favorite.

Plus, the Lions dominated the Bears last year in the opening halves. Detroit claimed a 27-13 halftime edge at Chicago and a 16-0 edge in Detroit.

Bettors might overreact to Detroit’s performance in Green Bay. For me, I’m not ready to hit the panic button just yet.

Given the buy-low spot on Detroit, I like the team to bounce back at home against a divisional rival.
