Jaguars vs Panthers: NFL Week 1 Odds, Prediction

  • The Jaguars are a 2.5-point home favorite against the Panthers.
  • The Panthers have lost each of their last nine games in Florida.
  • My Jaguars vs Panthers prediction focuses on the Jags’ team total.

Two struggling franchises meet in Week 1 as the Jaguars host the Panthers.

Jacksonville endured a 4-13 campaign in 2024. After making the playoffs in 2023, ownership elected to change coaches from Doug Pederson to Liam Coen.

Carolina struggled out of the gates last year, starting 1-7. However, a resurgent Bryce Young led the Panthers to a 4-5 record in the final nine games.

Jaguars vs Panthers Prediction

Based on the Jaguars’ offensive record last season and the arrival of Coen, my Jaguars vs Panthers prediction is to target the Jaguars Over 24.5 Points (-115).

Despite operating without Trevor Lawrence for a few games, Jacksonville posted some strong offensive metrics.

The Jags ranked 17th in offensive DVOA last season, per ftnfantasy.com. Most impressively: that record came against the hardest set of opposing defenses.

Now the Jags swap in Coen, who transformed Tampa Bay’s offense last year.

Coen took the Bucs from 20th to seventh in offensive DVOA. He also took them from 28th to eighth in rush offense DVOA.

If Coen applies the same magic to Jacksonville, it should offer a chance to exploit Carolina’s defense.

Last year, the Panthers defense sat 32nd in defensive DVOA. That marked a seven-spot drop from the 2023 league year.

Injuries do explain that record a touch. Last year, only four teams lost more adjusted games to injury on defense than Carolina.

But the prior year, Carolina lost the second-most adjusted games to injury. Suddenly, the narrative changes: Carolina struggles to stay healthy.

Plus, Lawrence has posted strong offensive marks as a home favorite.

In 13 starts in Jacksonville as a home favorite, Lawrence led the Jags to 23.1 points per game. Among all 13 starts, the Jags scored 30 or more points five times.

Over his last eight starts in that spot, Lawrence averaged 28 points per game. He failed to score 23 or more only twice.
