OTAs, or organized team activities, are generally held for about 10 days in the spring.
A single OTA cannot be held for longer than six hours, and there are CBA limitations on what activities can and cannot be done.
Some of those limits disappear when OTAs roll into NFL minicamps.
For instance, players can’t generally hit or physically contact one another in an OTA. Even approved on-field drills, like a 7-on-7 or 11-on-11, can only take place for a maximum of two hours per day.Â
When Do NFL OTAs Typically Start?
OTAs typically start in the last two weeks of May and continue through the first half of June.Â
They aren’t held every day; instead, they will usually be scheduled for two or three days for two or three consecutive weeks.
For example, the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are holding OTAs this year on May 22-24, May 30-June 1, and June 6-9. Many are predicting them to win the Super Bowl again.
