Eagles vs. Bears: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction

A pair of 8-3 teams meet on Black Friday as the Eagles host the upstart Bears. 

Philadelphia blew a 21-0 lead against the Cowboys in Dallas, the team’s first loss since Week 6. Still, the Eagles maintain their lead atop the NFC East despite the loss. 

Chicago captured a 31-28 win over the Steelers on Sunday to keep its lead in the NFC North. The win moves the Bears to 6-0 on the year when the offense scores 25 or more points.

Based on Philadelphia’s ability to avoid turnovers on offense and the Bears’ defensive fraudulence, my Eagles vs Bears prediction is the Eagles Spread (-7, -105). 

My only concern here is that it’s a lot of points to lay for a team with some key injuries. But the Eagles offense should thrive against a fraudulent Bears defense. 

In his career, Jalen Hurts is 19-0 SU against teams above .500 playing at Lincoln Financial Field. 

Sunday proved an anomaly, but the Eagles offense has generally avoided turnovers this year. Entering Week 12, the Eagles turned the ball over only four times. 

Chicago’s defense has lived and died by generating turnovers. This season, Chicago is 1-3 when the team turns the ball over one or fewer times on defense. 

When the Bears can’t force turnovers, the defense is a major problem. On plays excluding turnovers, Chicago ranks 31st in defensive EPA per play. 

That has come against the second-easiest set of opposing offenses. Offensively, the Bears have played the easiest set of opposing defenses. 

Friday’s game marks the first game for Chicago against a top-10 DVOA defense since Week 2. Chicago fell 52-21 to Detroit in that contest. 

Defensively, the Eagles rank eighth in defensive DVOA against the hardest set of opposing offenses. 

One more factor to consider: Jalen Hurts dominates man coverage. This season, he trails only Jared Goff in DVOA against the scheme, which Chicago runs at a top-10 rate. 

Plus, Caleb Williams performs radically better against man coverage than zone. That’s a problem against Philadelphia, which runs a plurality of zone coverage. 

Given those factors, I predict the Eagles cover the spread on Friday.
