Colts vs. 49ers: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction

See the latest NFL Week 16 odds, picks and predictions for Colts vs. 49ers on December 22 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
  • The Colts are predicted to be a six-point home underdog against the 49ers.
  • The Colts have lost 11 straight games as underdogs against NFC opponents.
  • My Colts vs 49ers prediction is the 49ers (-5.5) to cover the spread.

Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers will try for a fifth straight win against Philip Rivers on MNF.

San Francisco won and covered 37-24 against the Titans on Sunday, improving to 10-4 on the season. So far this season, however, the 49ers are 1-2 SU against the AFC South.

Indianapolis fell 18-16 on Sunday in Seattle, easily covering as a 13.5-point underdog. That marks four straight losses for Shane Steichen’s team, including three by four points or less.

Colts vs. 49ers Prediction

Based on the 49ers’ prolific offense and the Colts’ key injuries along the offensive line, my Colts vs 49ers prediction is the San Francisco 49ers Spread (-5.5, -120).

I don’t love laying this many points with a banged-up 49ers defense. Hence, overall confidence is relatively low, with San Francisco sitting north of a few key numbers.

The biggest concern is that San Francisco can’t stop the run. Entering MNF, Robert Saleh’s defense ranks 26th in rush defense DVOA, per ftnfantasy.com.

Indianapolis ranks second in the corresponding offensive category. Additionally, the team ran the ball effectively at Seattle with Rivers at quarterback.

But that might not matter against the 49ers. Indy remains without Charvarious Ward (IR) and potentially Sauce Gardner for this matchup.

That’s a problem against a 49ers offense ranked fourth in pass offense DVOA. Last week, Indy surrendered 7.1 yards per pass to a Seahawks side third in that category.

If San Francisco jumps out to an advantage, it places a lot more emphasis on Rivers to lead a backdoor cover. I’m not sure he can do that behind a banged-up offensive line.

Potentially, both starting tackles will miss Monday’s game. If there’s a relief, it’s that San Francisco lacks any pass rush since Nick Bosa’s season ended.

The counterpoint is that – very rarely – did Rivers attempt deep passes against Seattle. Accordingly, it could offer more opportunities for San Francisco to force a mistake.

Given those factors, it’s the 49ers or nothing on MNF as they chase an NFC West title.
