Vance Joseph begins his third year as Broncos defensive coordinator in 2025.Â
In 2024, Joseph turned around a weak Denver defense rather quickly. After ranking 29th in yards allowed and 27th in points two years ago, he lifted Denver to seventh and third.Â
That marked the first year in Joseph’s extensive career that he coordinated a defense 10th or better in points.Â
Before Denver, Joseph worked four seasons as the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator. His top points allowed ranking in Arizona: 11th.Â
Joseph has one more year of experience as a defensive coordinator. In 2016, he coordinated the Miami Dolphins’ defense.Â
Before Miami, Joseph worked with defensive backs for three teams:
- San Francisco 49ers: Asst. DB’s Coach (2005), DB’s Coach (2006-10)
- Houston Texans: DB’s Coach (2011-13)
- Cincinnati Bengals: DB’s Coach (2014-15)
After Miami, a two-year spell as Broncos head coach followed. Joseph struggled to earn results, finishing 11-21 in two seasons.Â
Joseph also has six years of NCAA coaching experience. For three years, he worked as a Colorado grad assistant.Â
After came one-year periods with Wyoming, Colorado and Bowling Green followed, all as a DB’s coach.Â
