  • Dennis Allen takes over as the Bears’ defensive coordinator in 2025.
  • Allen arrives in Chicago after a stint as the Saints’ head coach.
  • Allen also previously worked for the Saints and Broncos as DC.

Dennis Allen arrives in Chicago as Ben Johnson’s first defensive coordinator.

Allen takes over for the Bears after working as the Saints’ head coach. New Orleans finished 18-25 in games behind Allen and fired him midway through the 2024 season.

The Bears picked him up this offseason. In Allen, Chicago acquired a coach with loads of NFL coaching experience.

Allen began his career in 2002. For four years, he worked on the Falcons’ staff – two in defensive quality control and two as a defensive assistant.

The Saints hired him for an initial spell from 2006-10:

  • 2006-07: Asst. Defensive Line Coach
  • 2008-10: Secondary Coach

A one-year tenure in Denver followed as defensive coordinator. In 2012, the Raiders hired Allen as head coach, with Allen lasting 36 games. Oakland finished 8-28 in those games.

Allen then returned to New Orleans in 2015 for 10 seasons:

  • 2015: Def. Assistant/Interim Defensive Coordinator
  • 2016-21: Defensive Coordinator
  • 2022-24: Head Coach

In addition to his NFL experience, Allen spent six years in college football. His first four came as a Texas A&M grad assistant. Then, he worked two years at Tulsa, coaching the secondary.
