  • The New York Giants fired Brian Daboll on November 10.
  • Daboll departs an organization with a promising young quarterback and a bad defense.
  • Why Chargers offense coordinator Greg Roman could fit well in New York.

The Giants ended the Brian Daboll era after another shocking loss to the Bears on Sunday.

At 2-8, the Giants sit in the cellar of the NFC East. Sunday’s loss at Chicago marked the second time in four weeks New York blew a double-digit advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka takes over as the interim head coach for the duration of this season. He’ll lead a team with no Cam Skattebo, Malik Nabers and potentially Jaxson Dart.

Looking ahead to the 2026 offseason, here are three potential permanent head coaching candidates.

NFL Hot Seat: 3 Potential Replacements for Brian Daboll

Greg Roman: Los Angeles Chargers Offensive Coordinator

To me, Dart qualifies as a poor man’s Justin Herbert

The rookie quarterback offers mobility behind a bad offensive line. While the same isn’t true about Los Angeles, Roman could unlock a staggering offense.

As of this writing, the Giants rank 23rd in offensive DVOA, per ftnfantasy.com. That comes despite playing one of the league’s easiest defensive schedules.

Los Angeles is on pace to finish as a top-half offensive DVOA unit for the third straight season.

Roman has coordinated offenses led by Herbert and Lamar Jackson in his previous two gigs. Applying his offensive mind in New York could help improve the team.

Mike McCarthy: Free Agent

Whether McCarthy desires a return to coaching is the chief question. That said, the opportunity to return to a familiar division could bolster McCarthy’s case.

The former Cowboys head coach built his NFL success with powerful offenses. In three of his final four seasons with Dallas, McCarthy led the Cowboys to a top-4 ranking in points.

At full health, New York’s offense carries a similar ceiling to Dallas. Malik Nabers shows encouraging signs – a la CeeDee Lamb – with a decent running game to boot.

Whether he comes back at full health and performs at the same level is unknown. That said, a Super Bowl winner like McCarthy could radically improve this offense.

Adam Stenavich: Green Bay Packers Offensive Coordinator

Stenavich, a member of Matt LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan’s trees, offers a strong fit in New York.

Green Bay finished no worse than 14th in points per game – inclusive of this partial season – under Stenavich. This season, he leads an offense ranked eighth in offensive DVOA.

That comes despite overwhelming concerns about Green Bay’s skill group. Purely by having Nabers, I argue the Giants possess more talent outside of quarterback.

Despite that, Green Bay rates out better in the pass offense than in the rush offense. Entering Week 10, Green Bay sits fifth and 12th in those respective categories.

Given those outputs, a Stenavich-Dart partnership could pay dividends in a division with weak(er) corner groups.
