The NCAA Tournament – also known as March Madness – starts its Round of 64 on Thursday, March 16.

Division I men’s college basketball decides its annual national championship throughout six electric rounds of competition in March, whittling the field down from 68 teams to just one winner.

Four initial games, called the First Four, are played on Tuesday and Wednesday. These are technically considered tournament games, but most fans consider the true start of the tournament to take place on Thursday.

Fans who are participating in bracket pools generally have until Thursday at noon to submit their brackets.

No. 8 Maryland will play No. 9 West Virginia in the first game of this year’s first round.
