Greg Kampe is the longest-tenured head coach in Division I college basketball. The Oakland head coach took over the Golden Grizzlies’ program in 1984.
Some long-established coaches have been in their current position for decades, but their current position hasn’t necessarily been a Division I job for their entire tenure.Â
That includes Kampe, as Oakland only moved to Division I in 1997.
It also includes Mercyhurst head coach Gary Manchel. The Lakers are one of several teams currently ineligible for the NCAA Tournament because of an ongoing transition to Division I.Â
