Yes, head coach Jim Boeheim appears to have been fired by Syracuse University after 47 years on the sideline.
After losing to Wake Forest in the second round of the 2023 ACC Tournament, Boeheim announced that his job status was “up to the university.” Later that afternoon, Syracuse announced that Boeheim would not return for the 2023-24 season.
One month ago, Boeheim told ESPN that he would likely return for next season.
While minds can change, the conflict between last month’s report and Wednesday’s announcement would suggest that Syracuse is, in fact, actively deciding to move on from the iconic coach after nearly five decades.
Adrian Autry, an associate coach at Syracuse since 2017, was named as Boeheim’s successor.
