Villanova vs. Wisconsin Prediction
This will be one of the most-watched basketball games of the night. Played on “neutral” ground at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, Wisconsin is priced as a key number here at 5.5.
That’s a significant number of points to offer Villanova, in the literal sense of the word. KenPom projects this as a toss-up, and the market likely prefers Wisconsin because it’s played a more challenging nonconference schedule up to this point. The Badgers are 2-3 against top-75 KenPom opponents.
Villanova is 0-2, with understandable losses to BYU and Michigan. The Wildcats are 8-0 against sub-100 opponents. So maybe they’re the No. 20 team, or maybe they’re closer to No. 90. We just don’t know.
Still, I’m going to take the points here in a game that’s expected to be close. Wisconsin’s excellent defensive rebounding may neutralize some of Villanova’s advantage in extending possessions for itself, but Kevin Willard’s group will be the more reliable shooters here. Combining that with the 5.5 points makes Villanova a strong consideration.
Prediction: Villanova +5.5
Baylor vs. Alcorn State Prediction
This game has the highest total on the board today. There are a few factors that play into that, but one of them is that Baylor has the No. 12 adjusted offensive efficiency and plays with a top-100 adjusted tempo.
Alcorn State, the Bears’ opponent, is a 1-9 team that also plays pretty fast. Their defense is one of the 40 worst in Division I. That’s a bad combination.
A team total of 99.5 looks dramatic, since over bettors need Baylor to drop 100 points in a college basketball game. But that’s what I like in this game. Alcorn has already yielded at least 100 to Florida State, Iowa State, and LSU this season.
