The Wizards had a strong argument for being the worst team in the NBA last year. They finished one win shy of the Utah Jazz, who were actively sitting key players out down the stretch to finish with as many losses as possible.
Washington posted the worst net rating in the league, finishing with a mark of -12.3. It ranked 30th in offensive rating and had an expected record of 15-67.
And yet, I remain optimistic about Washington’s future outlook. This franchise has showcased its potential during this rebuild, which could be capped off by securing a high draft pick in the elite 2026 NBA Draft.
The Wizards have done their part to ensure they will lose a lot of games next year. They traded away Jordan Poole, who led the team in scoring with an average of 20.5 points per game.Â
Three of the top four scorers from last year’s team are no longer on the roster. Marcus Smart was bought out, joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
Many of the young prospects will get complete control of the team, which should lead to plenty of losses for at least one more year. The Wizards won 18 games in the 2024-25 season and 15 contests in the 2023-24 campaign.
Washington could finish with fewer than 20 wins for a third straight year.
