A trip to Las Vegas will be on the line when the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Cup quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at the Paycom Center on Amazon Prime.
Oklahoma City (23-1) is a massive favorite as the best team in basketball, but Phoenix (14-10) has been underrated all year. Could the Suns put up a fight against the Thunder in an elimination game?
Find out in my Suns vs. Thunder prediction:
Suns vs. Thunder Prediction: Wednesday, Dec. 10
- Suns +15.5 (-110) – Prediction made Tuesday
Based on the initial NBA betting lines, I prefer taking the points with Phoenix (+15.5) as my favorite Suns vs. Thunder prediction.
For me to feel confident in this pick, Devin Booker needs to make his return from a groin injury. He’s been out for more than a week, but Phoenix head coach Jordan Ott said that he could play on Wednesday.
Booker has been the Suns’ best player this year, taking complete control of the team since they traded away Kevin Durant in the offseason. Booker is averaging 25 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game.
However, Booker isn’t the only Phoenix player dealing with an injury. Dillon Brooks left Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves before returning in the third quarter. He’s enjoying a stellar season, averaging 22.1 points per game.
If Phoenix is healthy, this line likely isn’t giving the road team enough credit. These two teams have only faced each other once this season, as the Thunder secured a 123-119 victory. Phoenix covered the 14.5-point spread by double-digits.
The Suns have been underrated all year, going 15-8-1 against the spread. The Thunder are a juggernaut, but the market might be showing too much love in this spot.
Prediction: Suns +15.5 (-110)
