The San Antonio Spurs hope to take the next step in their rebuild after drafting Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick following a 34-48 campaign.

Based on the NBA betting odds, the Spurs have a win total of 44.5 at the BetMGM online sportsbook. Can this young group push their way into playoff contention in a tough Western Conference?

Spurs Over/Under Wins 2025-26

  • Over 44.5 wins: +100
  • Under 44.5 wins: -120

Spurs Win Total Prediction

  • Over 43.5 wins (Pick made Aug. 21)

Rebuilds happen faster than you realize in today’s NBA.

The Oklahoma City Thunder won 24 games in 2021-22 before leveling up to 40 wins the next year and the No. 1 seed in the West the following two seasons. Now they are the defending champions.

The Houston Rockets recorded 22 wins in 2022-23. They were a .500 team the next season and the No. 2 seed in the West last year at 52-30.

It might seem like the Spurs are a year away, but they suddenly have a strong foundation of young talent that I expect to ascend quickly.

Victor Wembanyama was on his way to winning Defensive Player of the Year last season (as well as a top-six MVP finish) before getting shut down after 46 games due to a blood clot in his right shoulder. Assuming he’s 100% on opening night, Wemby will be one of the best players in the league this year.

San Antonio also has the reigning Rookie of the Year in Stephon Castle. The team traded for De’Aaron Fox to pair Wembanyama with a veteran point guard. The Spurs also signed Luke Kornet to finally have a competent backup center.

Some people might think the Spurs are playing the long game by not making a big trade this offseason. However, I think it’s because they know this roster is capable of climbing into playoff contention this year.
