Rockets vs. Mavericks: NBA Picks Today

  • The Rockets are an 11.5-point home favorite against the Mavericks.
  • The Rockets have won 10 straight games as favorites on the first leg of a back-to-back.
  • My Rockets vs. Mavericks prediction focuses on the Mavericks team total.

Seeking a fifth straight win, the Rockets welcome the Mavericks to Houston for a Friday contest.

Houston’s four-game winning streak vaulted them into fifth place, one game out of second in the conference. The Rockets are simultaneously 8-2 SU over their last 10 games at home.

Dallas finally earned a win on Monday to end a five-game losing streak. However, they followed it up with a 10-point loss to the Spurs. As it stands, the Mavs sit 10th in the West.

Rockets vs. Mavericks Prediction

Based on the Mavericks’ run of easy defensive opponents and Houston’s outstanding defense, my Rockets vs. Mavericks prediction is the Mavericks Under 103.5 Points (-110).

If this number feels low for a team that has scored at least 111 points in four straight, it should be an indicator of Houston’s defense record.

The Rockets rank eighth in adjusted defensive rating having faced the eighth-hardest set of offenses, per dunksandthrees.com.

Even more impressively, Houston’s defense takes a massive leap when they play at home.

The Rockets surrender only 105.7 points per game at home compared to 112 on the road. The former figure sees Houston rank second in the NBA.

That should give the Rockets a favorable matchup against Dallas, which ranks 28th in adjusted defensive rating.

It’s also a prime sell-high spot on the Mavericks, who have played a lot of easy defenses recently.

Not since February 25 has Dallas faced a team 10th or better in adjusted defensive rating. In that game, the Mavericks managed only 99 points.

While the Mavericks have cleared this number in five straight games, the average adjusted defensive rating of those opponents comes in at 20.8.

In their lone trip to Houston this season, Dallas managed only 99 points.

Pair that record with the massive injury list for the Mavericks, and I like them to stay under 103.5 points on Friday.
